Neal G. Anderson
Neal Anderson is highly skilled in process research and development. He has advised pharmaceutical and fine chemical industries on
developing and trouble-shooting processes for large-scale preparation of drug substances and intermediates. He has assisted in technology
transfer to manufacturing sites. He has advised on equipment selection for scale-up laboratories. Neal has done hands-on development of
chemical processes for industry. He has presentied short courses publicly and in-house on developing practical scale-up processes for
"small molecules".
Neal brings a very unique set of capabilities and experience to Conformia. He developed and introduced processes for the manufacture of
four major drugs and intermediates for Bristol-Myers Squibb. He has proven success in developing practical, cost-effective processes.
For example: his work on the simplified captopril (CapotenŽ) process I resulted in a savings of about $3.7 M annually.
Neal has 25 years of practical, hands-on experience in developing processes, including 12 manufacturing start-ups.
He has taught courses on process R & D presented internationally to more than 700 participants from more than 100 companies.
Neal is the author of Practical Process Research & Development (Academic Press, 2000).
Neal completed his B.Sc., Honors Biology at the University of Illinois in 1972. He was awarded his Ph.D.
in Medicinal Chemistry at the University of Michigan in 1977. Neal completed his post-doctoral studies from 1977 1979 at McNeil
Laboratories where he produced one US patent and one paper. From 1979 1997, he was with Bristol Myers Squibb, Chemical Process
Technology, with a final position of Principal Scientist. There, he introduced 12 processes to BMS manufacturing facilities in Ireland
and Puerto Rico, and many processes to New Jersey pilot plants. He also gained extensive hands-on experience with chemical process
development in the lab, wrote five papers and five US patents granted to BMS. From 1997 until the present, Neal worked for Anderson's
Process Solutions, in international consulting and training services.
