Wine Industry Veteran Joins Conformia
Bert Silk to Support WinePRO Product Development and Company Position
REDWOOD CITY, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 1, 2003
-Conformia Software, Inc., a leading provider of enterprise software solutions to regulated, process-oriented industries, today announced that Bert Silk, currently Chairman of the Wine Institute, has joined the company as a formal advisor to the Beverage Alcohol Industry Team. Silk has been an advisor to Conformia since May of 2001.
Conformia's WinePRO is the first true global enterprise wide, web-based production and compliance software solution built for the wine industry. Conformia's Beverage Alcohol Solutions Team spent over 22 months working onsite with wineries -- ranging from small (10,000 case producing wineries) to large (10,000,000 case producing wineries) -- to drive product requirements for WinePRO.
WinePRO is based on over 30 person years of extensive research and development into winemaking, production, and regulatory best practices. WinePRO is designed to help the wine industry manage their wine product planning, production process, and enable full traceability from "bottle-to-vine." WinePRO is currently being implemented in numerous wineries across the United States.
"Bert is an industry veteran who is well respected and integrated throughout the wine industry," said Joe Prang, Chief Executive Officer of Conformia. "His knowledge and experience has played a pivotal role in the development and implementation of WinePRO. Bert's position as advisor is an invaluable asset to the Conformia Beverage Alcohol Solutions Team."
Silk's career in the wine industry began in 1958 when he left the University of Massachusetts to begin working with his father at the Yosemite Wine Company in Madera, California. From 1960 to 1965, he worked for United Vintners at Escalon, Asti and Port Newark, NJ. Since 1965, Silk has worked in various positions with what is now Constellation Brands, including Senior Vice President, Production; President, Canandaigua Concentrates; and member of the Board of Directors.
"I am thrilled to be involved with the talented team at Conformia and advise for a product that simplifies the production cycle," said Mr. Silk. "The compliance and regulatory aspect of the winemaking process have always been there, and it's not expected to go anywhere. WinePRO is THE product that not only saves the production team time, but also simplifies the process, in turn making the team more effective and the company more in sync with detailed cost analysis."
"I wish this product had been around when I was in production!" added Silk.
WinePRO covers the complete winemaking process from harvest through bottling with solution modules for work order planning & management, blend management, tank management, barrel management, lab management, cellar management, compliance reporting, bottle-to-vine traceability, and costing. It also covers the full brand life cycle from trial blending, through production, and product history management. WinePRO automatically generates the TTB Form 702 for a user-defined period based on the activities in the period.
Silk was the first Chairman of the New York State Wine and Grape Foundation, one of the founders of the Eastern Section of the American Society of Viticulture and Enology and Past Chairman of that section. He has been active in various international wine organizations.
Silk has been president of the Canandaigua Kiwanis Club, member of the board of the Ontario County library system, and member of various advisory committees to the Canandaigua school system.
